About the Author

BARTY PHILLIPS is a highly respected journalist, broadcaster and author. Formerly Home Correspondent of the Observer for 16 years, she now writes for several national magazines and newspapers on design and the home. She has frequently appeared on television programmes and radio phone-ins and also lectures on aspects of the home, including garden history. Her many books include Doing Up Small Spaces, Conran and the Habitat Story, Living With Carpets and The Home Design Guide. She is an Honorary Member of the Architectural Association. Her home for 30 years was an old stable in Hertfordshire; she now lives in London where she has taken her own advice, and decorated her own home.
